Acetabular fractures disrupt the smooth cartilage
surface of
the acetabulum (hip socket). If allowed to heal in a
displaced position there is a probability of progressive hip arthritis
requiring further surgery such as total hip arthroplasty.
|

Precise surgical reconstruction of the fractured
acetabulum has an 80% probability of preserving a functional hip
for years to come. Surgical precision by a skilled and experienced
acetabular fracture surgeon is essential.

Acetabular Dysplasia (a congenitally shallow
acetabulum) can lead to severe hip arthritis in young adults.
A periacetabular osteotomy re-orients the acetabulum to better
cover the femoral head and thereby alleviate pain and extends
the functional life of this abnormal hip.
|

In a minority of cases an associated femoral
osteotomy is also beneficial. Precise surgical reconstruction
of the fractured acetabulum has an 80% probability of preserving
a functional hip for years to come. Surgical precision by a skilled
and experienced acetabular fracture surgeon is essential.
