The Hip & Pelvis Institute at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA has a very unique opportunity for a one year fellowship under the guidance of Joel Matta, MD. The fellow will be trained in open hip and pelvis reconstructive surgery, providing a unique foundation for a future comprehensive hip and pelvis surgeon. Training will focus heavily on anterior total hip arthroplasty in both the primary and revision settings as well as periacetabular osteotomy. Additionally, the practice is a referral center for acetabular and pelvic trauma in which a steady volume of cases are transferred and/or referred from surrounding trauma centers as well as from national and international centers. Lastly, there are opportunities to work with affiliated surgeons in knee arthroplasty and orthopaedic trauma, should you have the desire (optional).
The fellowship also offers a strong research environment that will allow for multiple opportunities to publish research. There are numerous ongoing studies in which to participate as well as numerous opportunities to author manuscripts and book chapters should one desire.
Overall, this highly specialized fellowship prepares the fellow for a niche practice. It is ideally suited for trainees graduating from a a trauma or joint reconstruction fellowship, who wish to obtain further training in a second fellowship. However, it is also open to graduating residents and would be perfect for a candidate looking to focus on this area of practice.
Candidates must have/be eligible for a California medical license. Competitive monthly stipend and malpractice insurance will be provided. Requires a one year commitment.
